SUDBURY — Construction is underway to add 32 modern long-term care beds at Hoivakoti Finlandia Nursing Home, a long-term care home in Sudbury. These beds will complement the existing 112 beds currently at the home, and stem from an investment from the Construction Funding Subsidy top-up. The expansion is part of the government’s plan to protect Ontario by creating good jobs and building for the future, while ensuring seniors get the quality of care and quality of life they need and deserve.

“Congratulations to the team on the new construction at Hoivakoti Finlandia Nursing Home. Our government is fixing long-term care, and a key part of that plan is building capacity where Ontarians need it,” said John Jordan, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Long-Term Care. “Today marks a significant milestone for Greater Sudbury. When construction is complete, 32 additional residents will have a safe and modern place to call home.”

The home is expected to welcome its additional residents in fall 2026.

The new section will feature 32 private rooms. Additionally, the expansion's lower level, covering approximately 3,000 square feet, will serve as an onsite training facility for staff and placement students from local colleges and universities. Other amenities at the home include a fitness centre, physiotherapy centre, and beauty salon.

This project is part of the Ontario government’s commitment to build 58,000 new and upgraded long-term care beds across the province. The plan to improve care for seniors is built on four pillars: staffing and care; quality and enforcement; building modern, safe, and comfortable homes; and connecting seniors with faster, more convenient access to the services they need.
